Selection of a Superintendent of Schools is one of the most important functions performed by a local board of education. When superintendent vacancies occur, GSBA provides technical assistance to local boards at their request to help them organize and conduct a systematic and effective superintendent search. GSBA is regularly engaged by local systems to help them at this important time. We have assisted more school systems with superintendent searches than any other single entity in Georgia.

GSBA does not select a superintendent for the local board, but rather provides staff assistance to facilitate and advise the board at every point during the process. Throughout the process, GSBA is careful to insure that the local board retains maximum decision-making control in the selection and employment of the superintendent.

GSBA assists local boards in seeking community input, establishing selection criteria, advertising the school district's vacancy, checking references, interviewing candidates, and finalizing the selection process.

GSBA handles these important details so that the board is able to concentrate on choosing the best person to serve in this important capacity for the district.
