Awards & Recognitions That Have "Open" Nominations

    • GSBA BOARD SERVICE RECOGNITION – Recognition for local public school board members who have served 15 (15 to 24), 25 (25 to 29), or 30+ years of consecutive or non-consecutive years on their local board, or another public school board of education. Board members must document their service on the appropriate school system letterhead. This recognition can also be provided posthumously to honor deceased school board members. Superintendents or board members may submit the name(s) and documented service of school board members who are eligible. Honorees will receive a special pin and their names will be listed in the GSBA/GSSA Annual Conference (December) program. The names must be submitted by October 1, 2008, in order to be listed in the program. *Please note that this is a milestone award. Pins are given only once at each plateau. If you have questions regarding whether or not your board member has received a pin from GSBA in the past, please contact Jeanette Shelnutt at GSBA.

    • BEACON AWARD – This award has been expanded to separately recognize print and electronic media representatives/organizations whose coverage over time has created understanding of public education issues by informing the general public about programs, policies and/or issues affecting the public schools, students, and/or communities. Up to five awards will be given in each category - print and electronic.   Please note that the board of education must officially approve the nomination for Beacon Award.

      To be recognized at the 2008 GSBA/GSSA Annual Conference, nominations must be received by October 1, 2008.

    • GSBA PARTNERSHIP COMMENDATION – This award recognizes organizations and businesses that support local public schools and school systems. GSBA will supply certificates for the board to use in recognizing the partner at a local board meeting or school system function.  This form may be submitted at anytime during the year (There is no recognition at annual conference)
