School Finance Communications Kit

Our members have indicated that education finance is a critical issue and that they are often asked to present information on the topic. In response, the Georgia School Boards Association developed this resource to assist those who may be asked to present short, basic presentations on how public schools are funded in Georgia.

“Funding Georgia’s Schools: An Overview” is not intended to give an in-depth training on the subject matter. The presenter is encouraged to customize the presentation with local information.

Included in the kit are:

  • A PowerPoint presentation, which can be downloaded here - The PowerPoint presentation is complete with talking points. (To see the talking points, select “Notes Page” under the “View” menu. You can also download a pdf file that includes the talking points.) The presentation is meant to be customized with local funding information. There are  slides at the back of the presentation ready for local budget information. The presentation was designed to be an overview of the topic - about a 45-minute to an hour-long session.

  • A Brochure Template - The brochure template has “Funding Facts” of a statewide nature on one side and can be customized with local budget information on the inside. The presenter may wish to include local funding challenges, or talk about how the budget supports student achievement. A pdf file of the brochure can be downloaded here. Simply “paste” local information on the inside and make copies.

  • A Handout on Weights for FTE Funding Formulas - This handout shows the different weights for a few different programs. Download the pdf file here.
