GSBA affords local school board members a great opportunity to fulfill their annual training requirements for the fiscal year in conjunction with the GSBA/GSSA Annual Conference held in Atlanta.   This is a convenient way to obtain the necessary credit for annual training (see O.C.G.A 20-2-230)

Three excellent programs are available for board members, superintendents and attorneys who represent local boards of education.  Below is a brief description of each workshop with links to more detailed information. New Board Member Orientation (November 28 - November 29, 2007)
The finest introduction to local school board service found anywhere.  All new school board members are required by law (O.C.G.A 20-2-230) to attend New Board Member Orientation within the first year of assuming office.  In the day and a half training, school board members will be introduced to school law, school finance issues including budget, parliamentary procedures, superintendent evaluation process and much more.  Register for the New Board Member Orientation now.

E. Freeman Leverett School Law Workshop (November 29)
One of the most important and prestigious workshops offered annually by GSBA.   For over fifty years, GSBA has been the leader in helping local school boards interpret the complexities of Georgia's laws, rules and regulations regarding public education.  The E. GSBA Student Achievement Workshop (November 29)
Being an effective board of education has always been a challenge but never more so than today. In this age of accountability, the local board of educations primary focus must be the improvement of Student Achievement.

This workshop will focus on examples of best practices that are making a positive impact in school districts around the state. Topics will include: school improvement planning, goal setting, collecting and using data as well as the collaboration between and among the board of education, superintendent and local school administrators and teachers.
