GSBA Past President Gillis “Skip” Dawkins served as 2007-08 GSBA President. He was first elected to the GSBA Board of Directors as Vice President in 2006-2007. He became President Elect in January 2007 to fill a vacated seat. He served as GSBA President for the 2007-2008 term. Dawkins has served as a member of the GSBA Governmental Operations Committee and the Awards Committee. He has also served on the NSBA Federal Relations Network. Dawkins serves as a trainer with the GSBA Veteran Board Member Training Program. Mr. Dawkins retired in 2006 from Alltel Communications after working more than 42 years in the communications business. Mr. Dawkins is also involved in his community as a member of several organizations, including the Perry United Methodist Church, Chamber of Commerce, United Way, Red Cross and Air Force Association(s). He is a member and past chair of the Military Affairs Committee for the Perry Chamber, and has been an honorary commander of the 19th Air Refueling Group. Dawkins has served over 14 years as a member of the Houston County Board of Education.
