The GSBA Mentor Program exists to pair a veteran board member with a new board member. Mentors provide counsel to new board members as they are "learning the ropes."
The GSBA Mentor Program is a voluntary opportunity for a new board member (in his or her first year of service) to be matched with a seasoned school board member in another district.
Mentors Can Assist in "Learning the Ropes" of Board Governance
GSBA provides a structure to pair board members. The partnership requires a one year commitment and is a program for exchange of information about school boardsmanship. The mentor gives advice about basic school board roles and responsibilities based upon personal experience. The mentor does not offer legal counsel or advice on how to vote. The matched pair determine how they will communicate using means most comfortable for them: face-to-face, telephone, email, etc.
