
GSBA's new Awards and Recognitions Program allows boards to achieve three levels of excellence. The popular Beacon Award remains as a vehicle to honor media organizations for fairness and accuracy in reporting on education.
The Georgia Board of Education developed state standards for governance that form the foundation for GSBA's new program. The new program replaces GSBA's Standards for Local Boards of Education and the Board of Distinction program.
FY13-14: Year of New Board Recognitions Program
GSBA is offering
3 FREE WEBINARS to help further explain the new GSBA Board Recognition Program. All boards, regardless of prior designations, must go through this new recognition program in order to receive future board recognition from GSBA. These informational webinars should last an hour or less and will be offered on the following dates:
GSBA's new Awards and Recognitions program begins implementation in FY2012-13. During that year, boards may begin working towards the following:
- Quality Board (Level I) - applications submitted by October 1, 2013; recognition given in December 2013
Future Recognition Levels
- Distinguished Board (Level II) - applications submitted by October 1, 2014; recognition given in December 2014
- Exemplary Board (Level III) - applications submitted by October 1, 2015; recognition given in December 2015
